In the final days of our annual giving campaign, we find ourselves short of where we should be to reach our goal. Can you help?
These are such difficult times for many in Saint John, Kings and Charlotte. Amid rising prices and a shortage of affordable housing, more people do not have a place to live. Still others find themselves deeper in despair, unsure of where to turn.
But there is reason for hope. We know that the people in our communities rally to support their neighbours whenever they can. And we know that the organizations supporting the most vulnerable in our communities are dedicated to helping wherever they can.
Your generous support also allows United Way to pursue important work in promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility and reconciliation in our communities.
Meaningful social change requires us to work in a way that honours and upholds the rights of all community members, acknowledges and respects lived experiences, and dismantles the barriers people face to true social inclusion.
United Way Saint John, Kings & Charlotte is undertaking this on different fronts.
We’re looking inward at our own policies, practices and learnings and working with our fellow United Ways across the Maritimes to strengthen what we do.
We’re working with and supporting other organizations who are working tirelessly at this, including Ability New Brunswick, Black Lives Matter and the Multicultural Association of Sussex, among others.
We’re seeking out training and education directly from organizations representing communities experiencing marginalization, including Chroma NB, the Nigerian-Canadian Association of New Brunswick and the New Brunswick Multicultural Council.
Our work in this space is only in its early stages, and we will continue. It is important that we listen to those affected, elevate their voices, and centre their needs in our solutions.
We can only do this work with your support. Our campaign closes Feb. 29. If you have not yet had a chance to give, please make a gift today. You can donate through our website or by calling us at (506) 658-1212.
