Workplace giving is transforming lives

Friends,

Without the dedication of the region’s companies and their employees, we would not be able to build brighter futures for those in need.

Donors in workplaces across Saint John, Kings and Charlotte are transforming lives and building stronger, more compassionate communities.

The spirit of giving – and the remarkable stories of those who have benefitted from that generosity – will be on full display on Sept. 12 at noon at the Delta in Saint John as we launch our 2024 campaign. (To grab your tickets before they are gone, go online today.)

Workplace campaigns are essential to our success.

For many companies, giving back goes hand-in-hand with having a positive social impact as good corporate citizens.

A great way of making a difference and helping the United Way is through payroll deduction.

Did you know that 80 per cent of employees who work at organizations with workplace-giving programs make donations, compared to a giving rate of only 47 per cent among employees who work for companies without these programs.

People love giving through work! And they love working for companies that give.

Hilary Duggan, Relationship Manager for Commercial Financial Services at RBC, helped sell 50/50 raffle tickets at last year’s campaign kickoff and recalls how the experience touched her.

“The truly humbling feeling that giving back brings is the kind of happiness I wish everyone experiences,” she says.

TD Insurance workplace volunteer Wanda-Lee Pardy joined the firm’s United Way committee in 2014 because she wanted to give back.

“Being a workplace champion is about more than raising money,” Wanda says. “It’s about fostering a culture of compassion and community engagement within the workplace.”

Today, there are about 200 workplaces in our region whose employees directly support United Way through payroll giving and fundraising events throughout the year. In the last five years alone, employees have raised more than $3.5 million to help marginalized people in our community build better lives.

We are so thankful for their support. If you want to join this incredible roster of companies that use the power of their workplaces to build on change, please contact jenna@unitedwaysaintjohn.com.

And we hope to see you at our campaign launch Sept. 12!

Sincerely,

Jo-Anne Renton
