Looking back on a year of impact

In reviewing our annual report for 2023-24, I was reminded of what a busy and exciting year it was for all of us here at United Way Saint John, Kings & Charlotte.

Most important of all, with your support and the hard work and dedication of our partners, we were able to assist 9,500 individuals and families over the year.

This was possible only because of donations of more than $1.74 million. Despite current economic challenges, our donors rallied to aid the most vulnerable people in our community.

Your ongoing generosity reflects the deep-rooted spirit of compassion and community support that defines our Maritime heritage.

I invite you to read more about the impact that your donations had by reading our annual report, which is available on our website. Also on our website, you will find our audited financial statements for the year ending Feb. 28, 2024.

These reports underscore our organization’s collective achievements, financial resilience, and unwavering commitment to driving positive change and building stronger communities. I hope you will agree that they highlight our commitment to funding programs that address pressing social issues and meet community needs.

I will note that unifying seven United Ways into one regional organization across the Maritimes took place after our fiscal year end. Next year, we will begin reporting as one regional organization with a fiscal year-end of March 31, 2025.

We continue to be fully committed to transparency and accountability for how donor contributions are spent, and on the impact and results in the community.

Although we are one regional organization today, our local United Way will remain active, present and committed to Saint John, Kings and Charlotte. Dollars raised locally will be invested locally, and investment decisions will continue to be guided by local input and expertise regarding the needs of our community.

Sincerely,

Alexya Heelis
