From May 6-27, United Way SJKC and United Way Central NB are teaming up for Menstrual May.
Menstrual May aims to gather menstrual products and distribute them to local organizations that assist those struggling with period poverty. We firmly believe that access to these products is a fundamental human right, and no one should have to go without. Your contribution of menstrual products can truly change someone’s life for the better. Your donation will directly benefit individuals in our community who are in need. Together, we can make a positive impact and help put an end to period poverty. Thank you for your support and kindness.
What is Menstrual May?
Period poverty is an issue that affects many people in our community. As the costs of basic necessities increase, more and more people are making difficult decisions about how to spend their money. Unfortunately, sometimes this means people can’t afford much-needed menstrual products – that are just as essential and hand soap and toilet paper.
That’s why we’re launching Menstrual May – a campaign to collect menstrual products, and distribute them to community organizations serving people experiencing period poverty. Community organizations such as those funded through United Way are seen as connection points and a safe space for those experiencing period poverty. These organizations can ensure products are accessible when people need them, whether that’s by stocking their bathrooms, or making them available in food and necessities pantries.
How can I help?
As an individual, you can make a donation of menstrual products at United Way SJKC May 6-27. We also encourage people to start a donation drive in their workplace. You can even host an event, and make a box of products the cost of admission.
As a business, you can make a difference by hosting a drive, offering a discount to people who make a donation of menstrual products, or by making menstrual products available for free in your washrooms.
Individuals and businesses can help by sharing information about the drive and about period poverty. Consider sharing United Way’s social posts or sharing information with family and friends. If you can’t make a donation, that’s okay – spreading the word is still very helpful.
