For Ayvree, reading was once a daunting challenge, something he shied away from in his daily life.
But thanks to the Sylvan Learning after-school tutoring program at Milltown Elementary School in St. Stephen, everything has changed.
Before joining the program, Ayvree avoided reading, lacking the confidence to engage with even the simplest text.
Now, his mother sees a transformation.
“He actually reads – or attempts to read – even road signs and things in the grocery store,” she shares proudly. “Random things he never did before. I think the program has done a big thing for him.”
This year, Ayvree was one of 13 Milltown students who participated in the Sylvan tutoring program, supported by United Way. By June 2024, all 13 students achieved a “3” (appropriate) on their report cards – a remarkable accomplishment that reflects the program’s impact.
For Ayvree, the benefits go beyond academic progress. His newfound confidence in reading is opening doors to curiosity and independence. It’s a change that will continue to shape his future, both in school and in life.
Through your support, programs like Sylvan tutoring are not only helping students like Ayvree succeed but are also igniting a love for learning that will carry them far. Together, we’re creating brighter futures, one child at a time.
