Tracy’s story: A boy transformed

When Tracy first joined Sistema NB at the age of five, he struggled with focus and his own emotions. While enthusiastic about the music program, he fidgeted through classes and became easily upset.

Some days, he’d hide under tables or run away from his teachers. With help from occupational therapy, Sistema learned how to deal with his restlessness.

Eventually, he learned how to manage his frustrations and channeled his energy into his music and the Sistema program. The transformation was gradual but remarkable. His determination paid off – within just a few years, Tracy reached the advanced orchestra, successfully auditioned for the Saint John Youth Orchestra and became a Sistema volunteer.

Tracy’s confidence has grown and he’s an excellent mentor to others. He watches over a class of students, and has blossomed into a patient young adult. At Sistema, the staff feel a warm pride in his progress and can’t wait to see what the years ahead bring for him.

With stories like these, it is easy to see why this United Way-supported organization succeeds at its mission of inspiring children and youth to achieve their full potential through learning and performing orchestral music.
