At the young age of 17, Andrew was already out on his own – living in an apartment, attending high school and holding down a job.
With a busy life and a huge course load at school, he began to struggle. He worried about his sliding marks – he had a dream to go on to post-secondary education and held the job to save up for it.
A guidance counsellor at his school recommended he try the Raise the Grade program at BGC Greater Saint John, a United Way funded partner. Andrew was skeptical but gave it a try, and has been receiving tutoring help, including from a teacher named Rob.
Andrew is not skeptical any more. “Rob really knows his stuff!” he says.
Thanks to United Way donors, young people like Andrew are looking forward to a brighter future.
